I have been machine sewing most of the week.  Although, I did get a block from my applique project done.

I did get ALL the meandering quilting done on the Log Cabin Dreams Quilt – everything went very smoothly on my new machine.  I do think I need to pick up one of those vinyl  things that you lay on top of your machine so the fabric slides more; it wasn’t sliding very easily, but I managed.  I don’t have pictures, I will post them this weekend with the podcast – hard to see it anyway, since I used invisible thread.

Right now I am working on a tote bag made from the leftover scraps from my apron.  I love that fabric.  Hopefully it will be finished by Sunday for me to show off at a convention I am going to next week.

Kate’s Quilting (& other fibre arts)

Kate lives in London.  There are several reasons why I love her blog so much. 

• First, I love the look of it.  She lists all of her projects and deadlines, ufos, tops to be quilted, what’s for dinner, all kinds of stuff on the sidebar.
• Secondly, Kate is a Quilt Artist.  I don’t know if she considers herself that – but I sure do.  Her quilting is wonderful!  She does traditional quilts as well as art quilts.  Lots of eye candy.
• Third, there are regular posts.  She puts something up, with pictures almost everyday.  I don’t know how she keeps up.  And she does so much and I don’t know how she fits it into one day.
• Lastly, Kate does not just quilt.  She is full of talents and does lots of crafty things.

This week I just caught you up on what I have been doing and how my projects are going.  No topic, but plenty of craftiness.

My traveling with my stitching went very well.  Here are some pictures of how I organized everything.

I wound my thread onto bobbins and they all fit into a pin case. I left the ends hanging out so that I could get thread without opening up the case.

I used a small piece of material to organize some pins and needles.

I kept my scissors on lanyards.

Everything fit into a gallon size zip-lock bag.

Here is my lastest block finished or the Frolic Quilt.  I did this while on the road to DC.

I finished me first Hardanger Embroidered coaster.  It did not take very much time, but my time has been short this week; so it took me longer than it should have.

It came out OK.  There were a few slipped stitches and I am not sure if I cut it out right.  Plus, my tension wasn’t consistant.  It is hard to tell by the picture, but some of the needle weaving was tight and the beginning was loose.  I may throw this one away as a practice piece and do it over again. 

I love the project and it is very delicate, but I don’t know if it will fit my family’s lifestyle.  It looks a bit funny with a BK cup on it.

This week has been very busy house hunting.  My husband has been a great sport visiting the different builders and manufacturers; and gathering all the information.  Our research is piling up.  I think we have it narrowed down, but we are still looking at all the options.  We want to make the best decision we can. 

I have wanted to upgrade our living arrangements for close to 8 years ~ I am so excited that we are this close.  In 6 months I should be in a new home, a bigger home ~ but still no sewing room.   It is not in the budget; BUT, my son is 14 and I already plan on taking over his room once he moves out!  ha ha ha.

Today we discussed how to fit your crafting into your schedule and did a book review of “Fabricate“.

This is my Log Cabin Dreams quilt all laid out and ready to assemble – my Chihuahua, Nacho, refused to stay off of it and had fun mixing up the pieces every few minutes.

Key words to remember:

Fabricate by Susan Wasinger is an excellent book.  I reccommend everyone to get it.  It is not a quilting book, but she has some innovative ideas that could be used in quilts.

I have had an extremely busy week, but I guess it wasn’t busy enough. . . . . . . . maybe I am feeling guilty because I only have a few WIPs; I read other blogs and people seem to have an unlimited number of WIPs. . . . . . . . maybe I am getting disenfranchised with my applique. . . . . . . My log cabin project it close to an end, possibly it is sublimenal; one project ending and I need to get another one going.

 Do I care. . . . . . . . . . . . . . NO!!! 

I went into the store to pick up some embroidery thread for my Frolic block and I couldn’t leave without something different to work on.  I got it at a cross stitch store, but I don’t know if I would consider this cross stitch.  It is definately different than anything I have worked on before.

I am looking forward to starting it.  Hopefully, I can fit it in this weekend.

Wow, what a busy weekend!  Soccer game Saturday morning, lunch after game, about five hours of freelance work, post to blog (twice , record and post podcast, finish up freelance work, do my sister’s taxes, lanudry, dinner, play “Sorry!” and “Candyland” with the baby girl …..I think I am glad it is Monday!

But through all of that, guess what I found time for. . . . . . . . That’s right!  You guessed it!

I FINISHED SEWING THE CHENILLE ON MY LOG CABIN QUILT!!!!!!!!

By this time next week, I should have a finished quilt top!!!  Woo Hoo!!!
