Welcome to my blog!
My name is Brye Lynn. I am a lifetime sewer and, as of 2001, a quilter. This blog is dedicated to my favorite medium ~ fiber and fabric.
I come from a family of crafters. My mother is an amazing women who always knew how to do everything herself. She could sew, paint, upholster, crochet, knit. . . . . . . you name it. He favorite medium is painting, though. My grandmothers were also very creative. One is a painter and the other is very crafty in her own way; using various mediums and also creating something. Needless to say, I was raised in a handemade environment.
When I was about three years old, my mother taught me how to hand sew. I would sit at her feet while she was at her machine and I would make blankets and things for my Barbies. This was where my love of sewing started and to this day it is one of my favorite things to do. All through my school years I sewed, embroidered, and cross stitched. I was even lucky enough to land a job in a craft store when I was in high school. Oh, Joy!!!
Unfortunately, life happens and I slowly had less and less time for my crafts. Between work, kids, and family, I was lucky if I found a spare hour a week to sew. My sewing table turned into the kids computer table and junk pile; my machine was buried and was a hassle to use.
Well, I say~ NO MORE!! I have realized that when I am sewing, I am happier. Life is too short not to be happy! I have vowed to make more time for my crafts and hobbies; I will no longer waste away in front of the TV. I now sew a little each day and I have multiple projects I am working on. But I am, by no means, an expert. This is why I started this website.
This blog/website will be a place where I can share everything I have learned. I plan on researching a different topic or two each week and posting about it. Along with the blog posts there will be a podcast each week summing it up and answering any questions/comments that came in during the week. Together we can learn more and become “experts” in our own way. (Update – from 2010 to 2012, I took a hiatus from my blog and podcast to work on a “Ravelry for Quilters” website; the idea did not pan out and I am once again focusing my efforts on crafting everyday and blogging – makes me happy!)
I hope you enjoy my site and, please, email me with you comments, tips, suggestions, questions, or topics you want me to cover.
Don’t wait to be inspired to create something ~ get to work and the inspiration will come!
