Fabric Design

Posted by Brye Lynn on Feb 25, 2010 in Fabric |

I have known about Spoonflower for a while, but didn’t really have any interest in making my own fabric design.  Truthfully, I don’t know where to begin or what to create.  But tonight I had an “aha” moment.  Morgan and I were looking at a pattern for a fabric egg (more on this soon) and she said she wanted one with her name on it.

A H A!!!!

I can make the fabric with her name on it.  Thanks to Darla for passing on the info about Wordle. I used this as inspiration to create my design.

This is what I made very quickly.  It needs more work.  I will probably add her middle name “Athena” in it as well.  Plus I will need to make some Dustin Fabric.

Great idea Brye! I love the Spoonflower concept, just can’t think of what to design! I remember when I first heard about Spoonflower it was on a blog (can’t remember which one) and the woman had written a lovely poem to her niece and had it Spoonflowered to make up the back of a cot quilt. I thought it was a neat idea.

Brye, your so clever making Morgan’s own specialised fabric, she will love it for sure. You certainly give so inspiration to me to get going with my projects, I just need to find more time in my week. Vanessa (Aust)

  • Cute, cute…but if you only want small pieces of the stuff you can print it out on fabric and ironed on freezer paper or buy the pre cut and pre treated fabric sheets. I have done this with kids art and then had the write name and date. OR you being you scan then digitize and machine embroider it out….just stiring the pot here..

There are a lot of customization options. I was thinking of spoonflowering quilt labels, but wordling and spoonflowering your labels would also be fun!

Love the idea you had for fabric. It inspires me to give Spoonflower a try. Keep us posted how the process goes.

Your socks are beautiful. You should be very proud of yourself. I can’t believe you just learned to knit fairly recently. Amazing!
