Cutting Table (I mean coffee table)
Does your coffee table do this?
About a year ago we bought a new living room set. It is all oversized and too big for a normal size living room. It was on special at Rooms to Go and we had to take all the pieces to get the deal. This means we ended up with a coffee table that would not fit anywhere.
After the move we thought we would be able to find a place to fit it. No luck. At one point, my husband was going to get rid of it; but I could not part with such a beautiful piece of furniture; not to mention it had great storage space and where would I put all the Wii controllers?! So I put it smack dab in the middle of the living room and stood my ground that we were not getting rid of it. Everyone who visits, I ask “This table looks OK here, right???” All the yes’s got Rick to give in and we kept it
What I have found is that this table, when the top is raised, is at a perfect level for me to cut. I am short, only 5′ tall, so the kitchen counter is too tall. My sewing table is great, but it is small. Because the table is now in the living room, near my sewing space, I can very easily use it as a cutting table!
What unique cutting areas do you use?

Awesome responses! Thank you to everyone for sharing!
I got a table from Sam’s that can be adjusted to a higher level so I can comfortably stand and cut, that works well for me. It is skinny so it fits in a corner of my sewing area.
i am most comfortable using the kitchen island or when at my friends house i use her “pub height” table that is counter height. now i am 5′7″ so that height works for me – i don’t do great cutting at a kitchen table as my back aches from it.
Hi Brye, I use the kitchen bench when I need to do cutting as it is perfect height for me. But when cutting for my machine quilting customers, my DH made me a fantastic table, at the perfect cutting height, it is in my studio which is outside the house, but if I need to do lots of cutting I will go out their and cut on the big table with plenty of room to spread out. I guess I’m a little bit lucky in that aspect. Vanessa
I would have never guessed you were only 5′ like me. I have a old kitchen table my husband refinished as my craft table, and a nice cushy bench…or sometimes the computer chair gets rolled over there to use.
My son (now married) had a loft bed with a pull out desk. I took the front rail off, took off the mattress,
and bought a thick white board, cut to fit across the top. The height is a perfect 35 inches. I leave the desk in the pulled out position & that is where my sewing machine is. And I use his dresser to store notions & fabric, as well as, the drawers on the front & side of the loft bed.

As odd as this sounds, I use the floor! Livingroom is good sized, and I have a flat cutting board right in the middle of the livingroom. Always worked out just find.
