I recently started listening to Knitpicks Podcast too, and, also because of Kelly Petkun's urging, am in the middle of knitting my first pair of socks as well. I haven't gotten as far as Brye Lynn. (I'm up to the gusset decrease now.) So fun and very easy if I take it step by step and consult the great Lion Brand dpn tutorial whenever I get confused. Hats are also fun. But if you want to do a sweater, Kelly suggests a toddler size to learn sweater construction and see your progress. I am totally up for Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket next. Very cool. And if you start running into Second Sock Syndrome, you can start knitting two socks on either one very long circular needle or on two regular length circulars to make sure you still have a challenge!
