Episode 22 ~ Embellishments
Listen to the podcast of this postToday we discussed a little bit about my machine embroidery and embellishments for your quilts
Check out Cherry’s latest quilt. Isn’t it spectacular! She did this during Annie Smith’s online quilting class. Can you believe that you can learn these skills from an online class?!?! Check out Annie’s classes at www.simplearts.com. Please leave a comment and tell Cherry what you think about her work.
These are the new scissors my mom bought me. What would I do without her?
My latest block from my Frolic quilt
The shirt I machine embroidered. Please listen to the podcast to learn more.
Check out the new addition to the website – the Discussion Board! It is still new and I am working out the bugs, but it will be a great place for use to posts questions and get answers right away. You must register to use the discussion board, so click on the link at the top of the page “Register” or “Login”.
In the coming weeks I will also add a Craft Swap – listen to the podcast to hear the details.

I am Brye Lynn, host, author, and creator of Sew ~ Stitch ~ Create! I am a lifetime sewer and beginner quilter. This blog is dedicated to my journey into the crafting world as I learn and explore my favorite medium – fiber and fabric.

Thanks Brye for all the wonderful things you said about my quilt! And you all are so sweet, but I must give so much credit to Annie; she is a wonderful teacher, challenges you and gives you plenty time to get your work done – you should give her classes a try. About the colors, she picked them out and a kit was available though a shop in California. Aren’t they beautiful?
Thanks again Brye for the wonderful podcast! Looking forward to the next…
Cherry- I’m Noah’s mom Claire. Your Quilter’s Palette quilt is wonderful. Wasn’t it a fun class? Noah, my 12 yr old son loved it. He is almost done the outline quilting. Annie is coming to our guild in Nov and will see it. I’m almost finished the Pickle Road Garden. On-line classes are very efficient and challenging -in a good way. We
Cherry – your version of the quilt is awesome! I keep toying with taking this class and then don’t (too many quilts on my plate-LOL), but seeing yours REALLY makes me want to join in (I think I have til the 15th to make a decision this time). What to do, what to do!
And Debbie – how neat you got meet Annie! I almost went to the lunch she was having in Lancaster (I’m in the Philly area) but sadly, did not.
Awesome quilt Cherry. You must be proud!
Cherry’s quilt is just beautiful! Annie must be one terrific teacher to inspire such fabulous work.
Brye Lynn, I love all the photos you post!
Long list of comments this time. I guess your following has grown. Congrats! I have mentioned your podcast to some friends. Hopefully they’ll start listening. Some of them stopped listening to other quilting podcasts because they don’t post regularly, but I told them you do! I myself appreciate all the quilting podcasters. I know many of them have small children and/or busy careers
so I think it’s great that they do this even if not on a regular schedule. But, BryeLynn it’s great to know I’ll hear from you every week!
Oh, I almost forgot…Cherry, your quilt is absolutely beautiful! Terrific colors & great piecing. I may consider Annie’s class after the holidays. I have too many Christmas gifts to work on!!
Brye Lynn, I’ve been following your podcasts from the very beginning. I enjoy the relaxed nature of it. Despite the fact that I am an advanced quilter, I have still learned stuff from your research!
Cherry’s quilt came out so beautiful! I so love the colors. I really thought about taking this class, but just don’t have the time to commit. Annie started it again last week. I think you can still join. She also has another class she developed, Pickle Road Garden quilt. That looks great, too, but I just can’t spare the time. I would do these quilts using fabric from my stash, so it wouldn’t cost me anything. HA!
BTW, if you read Annie’s blog and listen to her podcast, I am the Debbie that met her in New Jersey during her last trip. Photo on her blog and she talks about me towards the end of her recent podcast! One correction there, I have two grandchildren (rather than 5) so far.
Cherry, awesome job! Quite impressive. I hope you sent the picture to Annie Smith too.
Brye Lynn, you do great work too. Thanks to both of you for sharing
A good place to get embroidery designs is http://www.emblibrary.com/ – Embroidery Library. I get almost all my designs there. You definitely want to make sure you use the right stabilizer for the project – different materials will require different stabilizers – ask me how I know!
Oh, and Brye, your latest block is darling, as they all are!
Cherry, your quilt is beautiful, amazing! Love the colors and you did a great job on the piecing. You should be very proud.
Brye, I also want to thank you for having the podcasts uploaded regularly. I always look forward to them!
PS: Thanks for keeping the podcasts coming so regularly. I did not feel like going to the gym tonight, but I have a deal with myself that I can’t listen to podcasts unless I am either at the gym, walking or doing something productive around the house. So tonight you were with me at the gym—do you feel the burn?
Brye,
Just a word of advice about machine embroidery: STABILIZE!
Adequate stabilizing is as important to good embroidery as proper pressing is to good sewing/quilting.
June
P.S. I like the embroidery on your shirt too. It makes a normal shirt and transforms it to something wonderful and special!
Wow. That quilt is amazing! I love the colors of turquoise and sage and buy the colors often, but haven’t used them much yet.
Thanks Brye for mentioning me in the podcast. To clarify, I took a four week class to produce not only my first applique block, but my first 4 applique blocks, 4 applique borders, and my first mitered corner borders (that have applique on them). I have 8 tulip petals and 8 flower centers to sew on, then have to remove the paper and then I will take a picture to show you (and the rest of the community) the entire quilt top. Promise to finish this week!
Brye, you are one step ahead of me. I would like to add some interest in my applique quilt borders, and kept thinking about embrodery lately, and here you are with a podcast on it (and other embellishments). Wonderful!
The quilt is beautiful. I was also considering Annie’s class but thought I could not keep up. I’m hoping she’ll add a class that I could do.
The quilt by Cheryl is stunning. I was considering taking Annie Smith’s class, but I didn’t think I would be able to keep up. Just not enough time to quilt! I listened to Annie’s latest podcast this weekend, and it sounds like more classes will be added soon. She is also starting another Quilter’s Palette class now.
