Episode 9 ~ Fabric Cuts/Book Review
Listen to the podcast of this postThis week I did not have a planned topic, so we discussed a variety of things.
Thank you to everyone who left comments this week. Be sure to read the comments from last week’s episode on fabric stashes. Very interesting to see how everyone else is handling thier stash.
Special thanks to everyone who left reviews on iTunes – we are up to 7 reviews.
Tami sent us a great email with PICTURES!!! Tami used Moda’s American Jane fabric to make “paperdolls” with fabric. She suggests quiltshoppe.net or keepsakequilting.com to purchase paperdoll fabric. (#9304 & #9306 from keepsakequilting is the doll and clothes fabrics).
Tami fused the dolls to Timtex using heavy duty fusable. She used a lightweight fusable on the clothes and toys- they stick right to the doll.
She also made a matching quilt with pockets in the back to hold the cutout dolls and clothes. Great Idea. Leave a comment and let Tami know what you think.
What did I do this week?
Finished two sets of booties – they were a hit at the baby shower.
Started another applique block for my Frolic quilt. Found a paper piecing pattern from Carol Doak for my Florida Gator quilt.
Purchased a couple “magic wallets” from the daughter of a co-worker. Easy to make and she sold them for $5 each. Great way to make extra money with your craft.
Question of the week?
- What color thread do you piece with
- 25 votes
- 36% Grey
- 32% Tan
- 20% matches the blocks
Topic this week – Fabric Cuts and Book Review
- We discussed what the different cuts were; Fat Quarters, Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charm Squares.
- Book Review of “Quilts for Men: From Crib to Dorm to Den”
Links from last post are now fixed and working – thank you to everyone who sent me a message.

I am Brye Lynn, host, author, and creator of Sew ~ Stitch ~ Create! I am a lifetime sewer and beginner quilter. This blog is dedicated to my journey into the crafting world as I learn and explore my favorite medium – fiber and fabric.

Hi Brye Lynn, I have to tell you that the crocheted booties are just amazing and I think I will have to pick up a hook, book and thread to try it out again. I also wanted you to know, I know your burden with the Swedish Fish, those have been my all time favorite. I used to buy the bags 2 at a time, lol. It is a hard to let go, but I believe you can do it. I appreciate your podcast and I enjoy listening to it, keep up the great work.
Thank you
Yes! I crochet, and it was the first “craft” I learned. I’ve crocheted lots of blankets, and with the birth of my daughter I’ve made dresses, outfits, booties, etc. I think the open toed sandel/booties are my favorite.
I’ve listened from the start, thanks to Kelley’s mention of your show on her show. Although I am not a new quilter, I enjoy all of the info you provide. I took your poll this week, and I do not crochet (yet), but I am a fairly new knitter. Seeing those sweet booties make me wish I knew how to crochet though! Please keep up the good work!
I am kind of bummed out because I listen to your podcast today and now I have to wait a whole week for another. This is my favorite podcast.
Brye you are keeping me sewing.
I loved you going over the different fabric cuts.
Thank you for talking about my paperdolls, how thrilling!! I didn’t mention, I also added adhesive magnet to one doll. I attached to the fridge so my little friends can always find it!!. Tami
